I'm in for an IP-KVM
When debugging a network issue on my proxmox host I made various changes and switched out the driver for my NIC. This was all fine until I did my weekly housekeeping in which I updated the kernel version on this machine. After rebooting Proxmox VE the machine did not come back up. Ultimately I found the issue and got everything back working in 1-2 hours. However this involved moving my main monitor and keyboard into the basement and connect to the hardware. This was the moment I understood why one would need an IP KVM. Until now I wasn't so sure about whether I would be in for one but this latest event finally tipped me over.
I am now a proud owner of a JetKVM. I looked at several reviews online and found the compact form factor and the feature set as well as the price point to be a perfect fit for my needs. I also got a DC Power Control Extension so I will be able to remotely power the machine on and off without relying on the USB connection as the ports are not powered on my Mini PC when it is shutdown. Setting things up went smoothly and I can access the Web UI in my local LAN now. Since I already have my VPN infrastructure in place I will also be able to control my Mini PC remotely in case of emergency.
I really like the ability to be able to mount an iso through the JetKVM as well. All in all hopefully I won't need it in the near future but when I do I will be happy to have this new tool in my toolbelt.
